On one of the first major snow storms of the season, American Automation President Lisa Buckley and Managers Vivian Williams and Marvin Williams were moved for the fourth consecutive year as a sponsor at the Veterans Salute. The event went on with over 500 in attendance on November 2, 2011.

The 2011 event marked the first time Veterans of the Vietnam War were “Welcomed Home.”

It was a moving tribute to those who served so well but initially were not appreciated like they should have been at home.

American Automation served as a Bronze sponsor for the event. We look forward to supporting the Veterans Salute again in 2012. Congratulations to Sheila Anthony and team for a job well done!!

Behind the scenes there’s a new trend that may allow President Barack Obama administration to still aggressive pursue energy efficient, cost reduction projects!

The new term is “ESPC” Energy Service Performance Contracts come into play. These contracts allow the government to retrofit existing properties with the latest energy savings technologies in lighting, HVAC and water usage reduction. The cost is paid for out of the savings.

On December 2nd, President Obama issued a presidential memorandum directing federal agencies to make at least $2B in energy efficiency upgrades at their facilities over the next two years. The memorandum explicitly calls on the agencies to use energy savings performance contracts (ESPCs). At the same time, the President announced commitments by 60 businesses, mayors, universities, and unions to invest $2B in energy efficiency retrofits over the same two-year period. The White House projects that the $2B in private-sector investments will retrofit 1.6 billion square feet in commercial building space over the next decade. To read the White House press release click here.
